Isn’t is fun to make a special space for a little boy to grow up? I struggled with his room for a few years since he had so many legos and other building toys…it just always seemed cluttered. This week, I moved his building toys downstairs and he got a great accent wall in Sherwin Williams’ Blustery Sky (other walls are SW Bungalow Beige). I love how it turned out, and hope you do too!
Here was the “before”…the beige walls were getting a little dingy, and my fun airplane display was coming down. I took off all the curtains to give them a little love before painting.
Here is the “after” again. I haven’t decided what to put up on that big expanse of blue! I sewed his fun denim and flannel quilt, and plan to do a tutorial soon, but here is a similar twin-sized quilt. Here’s a similar headboard.
Here’s the rest of the room. His desk is an old wooden desk I’ve had for years. You can see how I painted it in this post. I also made his nightstand with some leftover wood from this bookshelf. I used old denim on his quilt and curtains…I’ll have to post about those soon.
This bookshelf is at the end of his bed. He helped me label it with kid-friendly labels that he could use to organize his shelves:
- Non-fiction, Animals
- Fiction books
- Super heroes
- Chapter books
- Books about me (a few photo books)
- Non-fiction
- Bible books
- Poems, jokes, games
- Drawing and crafts
They are really makeshift right now, I think I might try these removable/reusable chalkboard labels so they can still be adjusted and changed as his books change. As long as I’m at it, check out these fun neon chalk pens…there might be many more things he wants to label.
He put a little pillow in there and now he has his own “reading corner.”
These cute little owls…I had fun making them for his Christmas present this year.
Here’s his art area, he can hang up his school work or other art. You can get a similar set up here. You might also need these hooks to put up your twine. Just tie the twine to secure it to each hook. They are easy to remove and put other places, too! The airplane decals are so much fun. Here’s a cute vintage set similar to mine.
Here’s his little nightstand with his clip on lamp. I love that clip on lamp, because we can move it, and he is much less likely to knock it off the nightstand. He keeps a few treasures in the drawer, and has some bedtime prayer books in there too. He likes to read one himself before bed. Check out this Star Wars themed prayer book, Here is a similar nightstand, another with drawers, and one more.
He loves it. He says, “It’s the best room in the house!” I love that it is warm, organized and has a lot of play space. Best of all, I love that he loves it. Hope you have a wonderful day!
